Incite and Crit

While waiting for my final (hopefully) download to complete on my ridiculously slow connection, I finally simmed out Incite like I’ve been meaning to. Please note that this particular sim is only applicable to Prot and Fury, because simming Deep Wounds requires taking into account possible overwrites from other abilities and that’s really more hassle than I want to go to at the moment.

So at best you’re going to get from Incite as a warrior without Deep Wounds is a 33% increase in the damage of your Heroic Strikes, though results will vary based on your crit chance. I’m actually quite surprised at how well Incite functions at the extremely low levels of crit we’re seeing with prot warriors right now. It might be a worthwhile threat talent. I’ll be raiding on my warrior tomorrow night so I’ll report back on the rage situation and quite possibly spec out of Blood and Thunder! (/tear) to pick this up.

As for DPS warriors – before the patch I had around 50% crit raid buffed in Fury, but I was also wearing a few agility pieces. Now that we’re back to gearing strength only, and Fury is stacking haste and hit, I expect Fury warriors’ crit to be just about where it needs to be to make maximum use of this talent. Plus, the additional chance to crit from the talent will be excellent for Fury wars trying to max haste/hit while maintaining their Flurry uptime.

Arms – honestly, do you even have to ask. Impale and Deep Wounds make crits of all kind shiny. I may sim with Impale sometime to see if the curve moves, but I probably won’t post the results here. /shrug

The exact numbers from my sim, if you’re interested. These are the average dpHS percent increases over a million Heroic Strikes.

Interesting. At low crit levels (ie, all tanks) each successive point is more valuable than the previous one. Increasing HS damage by 30% is nothing to sneeze at, either. Have you also done the math for Incite vs War Academy? It appears that Incite is better until very high levels of crit, provided Cleave is not being used.

I’d agree that Incite is definitely better for single-target than War Academy, though of course the two talents have great synergy. There’s not much math to do about War Academy in single target; it gives a flat % damage bonus per point to HS, none of the other abilities it affects are being used (much) in single target, and the bonus is smaller than Incite’s effective bonus turns out to be.

I’ve gone with War Academy over Incite for my leveling build because in 5-mans trash is the real challenge, but I’ll be going back to Incite when it’s time for raiding again.
